Gouache on paper 22"x19" This is a painting that illustrates a fantasy feeling in an abstract form. It portrays a dark valley that leads to a mountain surrounded by clouds. It is made to have a distant and unknowable quality. The valley is shaded with a gloomy color, almost like it is abandoned. The towering mountain in the background is designed to make you feel like something still thrives in the area past the valley and the clouds.
Ambitions of a Model
Oil on canvas 18"x24" This demonstrates my ability to draw human facial features and create a composition in the background. This photo was illustrated off of my model shot, as I have a side interest in the modeling industry.
Apocalypse Rider
Oil on canvas 16"x12" This image depicts the Angel of Death riding on a beast during the Apocalypse. The beast leaps through infernos, as Death stares silently back at the viewer behind a mask, separating the void and the viewer's world.
Character Sketches and Thumbnails
Sanquine pencil and charcoal pencil on paper 24"x19" This character board illustrates various creatures and figures. Most characters shown are used in finished pieces of artwork presented in this portfolio. Sketched scenery of terrain is shown as well in order to demonstrate the world built around the characters.
Dino Knights
Soft pastel on paper 26"x20" This is a window into a very strange world. It shows a planet with misty and rocky terrain and creatures resembling dinosaurs racing across the gravel, while lightning and fire is seen in the background. Warriors with superhuman strength and wielding weaponry imbued with magic are fighting alongside chosen companions.
Divine Deer Storyboard
Gouache on paper 18"x7" This storyboard does not portray a narrative. Rather, it portrays a concept. It revolves around a cloaked figure searching for mythical and hidden creatures around the world, described as being ethereal and ghost-like, yet always in the form of a deer; albeit with personal transfiguration. Their unique look indicates each creature's desire to show its own sense of individuality, even though they are not physical beings. To the cloaked seeker, they appear in many forms: Some take on pale shades of the moon, while others take on the essence of tangible shadows. The six deer, from top row to bottom row, show the following traits: Deceit, loneliness, pride, contentedness, curiosity, and intimidation. The reason to search for these deer is the hope of discovering knowledge on the power from these traits. Each Divine Deer has experienced downfalls and successes with their particular trait. They will pass on their eons of experience to those who can find them, and to those who are worthy.
Figure Drawing Sketch
Sanquine pencil on paper 18"x24" This piece focuses on portraying human anatomy, as well as showing intense highlights of shading on the body. It was illustrated off of a hired model.
Figure Drawing
Charcoal on paper This sketch illustrates my abilities to represent human muscle lines and structure from the front and the back. It was drawn from observing a model.
Head Study
Grey pastel on paper 18"x24" This was a sketch, not of real human structures, but instead of the classic idealized facial features of Mercury. Next to him is a geometric version of the human head on a different angle. The goal was to juxtapose two different styles of the human face. It is done from an observation of head busts.
If I were an Angel
Gouache on paper 21"x16" This is a depiction of an angel, simply flying by the viewer in the beautiful city of St. Petersburg in Russia. I wanted to create a scene that is focused on fantasy, but a fantasy that is on earth. It has a very casual feeling with the angel flying over the city as if it is on the way to go to the mountains. Wherever the angel is heading off to is left up to the viewer to interpret. The main idea is that the piece conveys a sense of recognizable motion. It captures a point of view from above the city, but not from a birds eye view.
Karkinnugstens Battle in the Pantheon
Gouache on paper 17"x14" This is a fantasy depiction of two metallic crustaceans flailing at each other. The battle shows high energy and motion. Their bodies and size are otherworldly, because they are my original design of Greek and Roman mythical monsters, fighting in the interior of the Roman Pantheon. Their names are derived from Karkinos, a Greek mythical crab, and the metal tungsten, a very hard metal. It is a concept artwork for a fighting game, in which a multitude of monsters from different countries fight each other.
Messy Sink
Soft pastel on paper 26"x20" This work is a still life, not of order but of chaos. It comes from my own daily routine of cleaning dishes. As an artist, this is a complex composition to display, as the shading, color tones, and opaqueness all depend on the placement of the objects and their effects on others around them. This finished work shows the objects in unity yet in literal chaos.
"Son, where's my duct-tape?"
Mixed Media Life-size These are stage-play tools crafted by using duct-tape adhesive. Chicken wire and plastic buckets provide a sturdy frame. The poles are metal and wooden household items. The scythe was made to go with a Halloween costume of the Grim Reaper. It has a flash light in the white ball, that allows for light on the dark streets. All items can be used as toys or stage props.
Still Life of My Studio
Gouache on paper This is a simple still life that illustrates basics techniques, most notably reflection and shading. It also represents memories of my time working in the studio. The griffin represents the many fantasy creatures I often like to create. The palette represents the time I spent on finding a good mix of colors for a painting. The reason for the metal vase is to show reflections, in a literal sense. It also represents my constant reflection on how I can add details to my work, or make something feel distant and otherworldly to the viewer. The photo represents my time spent on searching for inspirations. I would look through books and new ideas would pop into my head. The Greek sculpture in the photo is a reference to the steady progress of my artwork to reach the level of the Classical Age.
The Flaming Chimera
Gouache on black paper 30"x22" This portrays a Chimera, a composite beast of many animals. It has the head of a lion, the body of a horse, and the tail of a viper. Its mane and leg fur are ablaze with slow and steady flames, as he emerges from the darkness.
The Land of China Collage
Gouache 28"x22" This is a collage of thumbnails for compositional studies of landscape. The paintings are based on scenes of China during its peak seasons of beauty. The scenes range from winter to spring, and from lakes to mountains. It is also a mood board, where the mood is reflected by the colors of the seasons.
The Lifting Man Gesture Figure Drawing
Charcoal pencil on paper 18"x24" This is a human figure sketch of a model in a sitting position with his arms raised. This demonstrates my ability to draw basic shading values, depth perspective, and muscle structure.
Under the Arches of St. Marco
Oil on canvas This was a demonstration of illustrating shifting light gradients. In here the scene is set in the corner of a shaded ambulatory area. Shadows are portrayed along with the intense light from the afternoon sun in the court yard. It has a feeling of vastness, as the area looks like it is in the heart of a bigger complex.
Tree of Life
Graphite on Paper
36"X24"
This illustration was commissioned for a research project in environmental science, which explored the theoretical concept of creating a system of super-grown trees that could be used as a replacement for skyscrapers and, by extension, a replacement for a city. The end result would drastically reduce the human race's carbon footprint. This drawing illustrates what a single tree would look like in such a system.
Tree Metro

This illustration was commissioned for a research project in environmental science, which explored the theoretical concept of creating a system of super-grown trees that could be used as a replacement for skyscrapers and, by extension, a replacement for a city. The end result would drastically reduce the human race's carbon footprint. This drawing illustrates the metro system that would transport people between trees.
